About US

Department of Microbiology was established in 1979 with the course of BSc (Microbiology) and it was soon extended to Post graduation (MSc in Microbiology by papers and by research) as well as to PhD in Microbiology. Currently student intake capacity of department at final year BSc is 20-25 students and 20 students at post graduation (MSc by papers). Total intake capacity for research is of 8 students. Presently department has well experienced and fully qualified staff recognized for both undergraduate and post graduation studies.
Microbiology has applications in varied fields like pharmaceutical/ hospital/ food industry/dairy/ agriculture/ environmental/ medical research etc. To get the knowledge of actual application of theoretical study in working of various industries, Department organizes visits to industries/ hospitals/ research centers/ effluent treatment plants etc.
Apart from university regular curriculum, Department looks after overall development of students by exposing them to current research, encouraging students to participate and present scientific papers/ posters in conferences, workshops and inculcate research attitude in them. We tap the hidden talent in the students and guide them to participate in other activities like poster making, scientific rangoli, quiz, agar art, essay competition. Department not only depute interested students to industrial/ hospital training programs but also help them in placement after getting degree. Department encourages students to increase awareness in the society regarding diseases, their transmission and care to be taken as well as pollution and its ill effect. Department also conduct water potability test of water samples from college, residential societies from Ulhasnagar, especially during monsoon season.
Over all it helps students to know their capabilities, build  confidence in them and rise to their full potential.  This make students aware of the valuable contributions they can make to the society by making them responsible citizens as well.
